Keeping your home clean and organized can sometimes feel like a never-ending task, but with a few clever hacks, you can simplify the process and keep everything looking spick and span. Today, I’m excited to share some fantastic DIY simple life hacks that will make your home not only cleaner but also more organized and beautiful. These home hacks are easy, budget-friendly, and perfect for any DIYer!

Over the last couple of decades as a homeowner (and the last few years as a vacation rental host!), I’ve learned lots of fun tips & tricks to keep my home looking its best. These are are truly simple life hacks that aren’t hard or expensive to do, and I can’t wait to share them with you today! Let’s get started.

Get Rid of Strong Kitchen Smells with Vinegar
If you’ve ever cooked a lot of bacon in your kitchen, you know that the smell can linger for hours or even days afterwards. To mitigate strong smells in your kitchen like bacon or smoke, this simple hack works wonders. Simply combine one part water with one part distilled white vinegar and boil the mixture on your stove for 15-30 minutes. The vinegar mixture neutralizes the smell in your kitchen, and the vinegar smell itself should dissipate quickly shortly thereafter. I use vinegar a lot for helping to neutralize odours in my home and in my vacation rentals! A bowl of vinegar also works wonders in a stinky fridge.

No-Slip Hangers with Dollar Tree Pipe Cleaners
If you’re tired of clothes slipping off your hangers and ending up in a crumpled heap on the floor, I’ve got a simple solution for you. Head to your local Dollar Tree and pick up some colorful pipe cleaners. Wrap the pipe cleaners tightly around the top of your wooden hangers, and voila! You’ve just created no-slip hangers. The texture of the pipe cleaners provides enough grip to keep your clothes securely in place, saving you the frustration of constantly rehanging them in your closet.

Color-Coded Keys with Nail Polish
Use nail polish so that you never mix up your keys again by giving them a colorful makeover! Grab a few bottles of nail polish in different shades and paint the tops of each key in a unique color. Not only does this make your keyring look fun and vibrant, but it also makes it incredibly easy to identify which key is which. This hack is especially useful if you have multiple keys that look similar but serve different purposes.
Easily Clean Blinds with Towel-Wrapped Tongs
Cleaning blinds can be a tedious task, especially when dust and dirt accumulate on each individual slat. Here’s an easy way to do it! Start by wrapping each side of a pair of tongs with a small microfiber cloth or a clean dish towel. Secure the towels in place with rubber bands to keep them from slipping off. Use towel-wrapped tongs to gently clamp around each slat of the blinds and slide them along to wipe away the dust. Making your own DIY duster with tongs makes it easy to clean both the top and bottom of each slat in one go, saving you time and effort. If the cloths get too dirty, simply rinse them out or switch to a fresh pair and keep going until all your blinds are spotless.

Clean Lint Traps with a Vacuum
Lint can build up deep in the vent of your clothes dryer. Not only does this prevent your dryer from working effectively, but it’s dangerous and has been known to cause house fires. To clean deep into your lint traps with your household vacuum cleaner, you can attach this hose from Amazon to the end of your vacuum and fish it deep down into the lint trap area. Do this from the inside and the outside of your dryer vent to help give it a deep clean.

Remove Sticky Labels with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Reusing jars is a great way to reduce waste, but those stubborn sticky labels can be a real headache. Fear not – here’s another simple life hack for your home! A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can easily remove those pesky labels. Simply wet the eraser and scrub the label away. If there’s any residue left, you can use a bit of oil—any type will do—to dissolve it completely. Your jars will be clean and ready for reuse in no time.

DIY Linen Spray for Fresh Sheets
There’s nothing quite like slipping into a bed with fresh-smelling sheets. You can make your own linen spray at home with just a few simple ingredients. In a 500 ml spray bottle, mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 30 drops of your favorite essential oil, and 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol. Fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water and give it a good shake. Spray this delightful mixture on your sheets to keep them smelling fresh and inviting. Get my full linen spray recipe with step-by-step photos here. You can also use this spray to freshen up your couch, drapes, or other soft furnishings; just make sure to do a small spot test first!

Make Your Fridge Smell Fresh
Sometimes our fridges can get stinky, and this hack is an easy way to neutralize any smells. Place a handful of coffee beans into a bowl, and let that sit in your fridge for a few days. The beans neutralize foul odours and helps your fridge smell fresh once again. You can also use a bowl of baking soda, a vanilla bean, cloves of cinnamon, a cotton swab (or several) soaked in vinegar, or activated charcoal for a similar effect.

Beautiful Match Jar with Striking Material
Transform an ordinary glass container with a bamboo lid into a chic match jar. Simply fill the jar with matches and cut out the striking material from the original matchbox. Hot glue the striking material to the bottom of the jar. Not only does this look elegant, but it also keeps your matches easily accessible and ready for use. This little hack adds a touch of sophistication to your home while keeping things practical.

Prevent Scratches on Walls with Hot Glue Bumpers
Protect your walls from scratches caused by artwork frames with this quick and easy life hack for your home. Add small dots of hot glue to the back bottom corners of your artwork frames and let them dry. These hot glue dots act as bumpers, preventing the frames from scraping against your walls. It’s a simple trick that keeps your walls looking pristine and your artwork securely in place.

Shiny Chrome Faucets with Waxed Paper
Make your chrome faucets shine like new with a piece of balled-up waxed paper. Rubbing the waxed paper on your faucets not only polishes them to a gleaming finish but also helps repel water, keeping them cleaner for longer. This is an easy and cost-effective way to maintain that just-cleaned sparkle in your bathroom and kitchen.

De-wrinkle Sheets with a Damp Cloth
If you find that your sheets are wrinkly after drying them, this is a wonderful hack that works every time! It’s so much easier than using a steam iron after drying to get ride of wrinkles. Simply run some cold water over a wash cloth or small hand towel, wring it out, and then pop it into the dyer with your sheets. Run the dryer for another 10-15 minutes or until the cloth is dry. The hot steam from the damp cloth or damp towel will help ease the wrinkles out of your sheets without any need for ironing. Another hack is to add an ice cube to your dryer with your wrinkled sheets and dry them together for 101-15 minutes or until the cube has melted and the sheets are wrinkle-free.

Bar Keeper’s Friend for Grey Marks
If you have white ceramic sinks or dinnerware, you might notice grey marks from utensils or cookware. Bar Keeper’s Friend is your go-to solution for this problem. Simply apply a small amount of the cleaner to the affected area and scrub gently. The grey marks will disappear, leaving your ceramics looking pristine and brand new. This hack is perfect for keeping your kitchenware in top-notch condition.

Clean Cooked-On Grease from Old Pans
Old pans with cooked-on grease can be a nightmare to clean, but there’s a nifty trick that can make them look good as new. When my pans are all gunked up from baked on cooking oil, this hack works every time! Fill the pan with water and add a dishwasher tab. Bring the water to a boil and let it simmer for a few minutes. Use a plastic spatula or a wooden spoon to gently scrape off the grease, and then scrub the pan as usual. You’ll be amazed at how effectively this method removes stubborn grease, making your pans sparkle once again.

Fold the Perfect Towel
This towel folding method is one of the best because you don’t see any edges, and it’s easy to store. To make this beautiful towel fold, fold the towel in half horizontally. Then, bring the raw ends up and fold in half again. Finally, fold the towel into thirds vertically. This creates the perfect rectangular shape that looks great stored on a shelf!

Cutting Board Cleaning Hack
Bid farewell to stubborn food stains and lingering odors with a simple, effective hack. Grab yourself a lemon, slice it in half and prepare for some zesty magic. Take one of those lemon halves and rub the cut side all over your cutting board. The acidity of the lemon juice works to break down stains and eliminate any funky smells that might’ve taken up residence.
Feeling extra determined? Before busting out the lemon, sprinkle some baking soda all over the cutting board for an added boost of cleaning power. Then, get to scrubbing with that lemon half.

Make Your Curtains Look Expensive
If you’ve purchased cheaper curtains like a set from IKEA, you can make them look liek higher end décor by using the following hacks. First, make sure to hang them high on your wall; about 4-6 inches from the ceiling is usually perfect. Next, hang them wide on your windows so that they clear your window on either side. Finally, consider purchasing a couple of panels for each side of your window to make them look fuller.

Easily Clean Your Shower Head
Is your showerhead not delivering that powerful spray it used to? Over time, mineral deposits and grime can build up, clogging the nozzles and reducing water flow. But don’t worry—cleaning your shower head is super easy, and you probably already have everything you need at home!
Fill a plastic sandwich bag halfway with white vinegar. Vinegar is a natural cleaner that breaks down mineral deposits effectively. Place the bag over your shower head, making sure the nozzles are fully submerged in the vinegar. Secure it with a rubber band, and let it soak for a few hours—or even overnight for tough buildup. After soaking, remove the bag and turn on the shower to rinse off the vinegar. For any remaining grime, use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the nozzles. This will help remove any stubborn deposits and get your shower head sparkling clean.

Get Wax Out of an Old Candle Container
Ever finished a candle and been left with a beautiful container you just don’t want to throw away? Here’s how to easily remove candle wax! Start by popping the candle container in the freezer for a few hours. The cold will cause the wax to contract and loosen from the sides of the container, making it much easier to remove. After freezing, take a butter knife or a spoon and gently press against the wax. It should break apart and pop out easily. For any remaining bits, you can use a paper towel to wipe them away. Once the wax is removed, clean the container with hot, soapy water to remove any residue. If there’s still a bit of stubborn wax or soot, a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth will do the trick. Now that your container is clean, it’s ready to be repurposed! Use it as a cute storage jar, a small planter, or even make your own new candle by pouring in fresh wax and adding a wick.

Spice Storage Hack for Small Kitchens
Magnetic storage is an ingenious way to keep your tiny kitchen clutter-free. If you don’t have room for a spice cabinet, magnetic shelves are the perfect addition to small spaces. Install a magnetic spice rack on the side of the fridge to house all your spices, and even use hooks to hang your kitchen utensils. This magnetic rack from Amazon fits my spice jars perfectly. The magnet is surprisingly strong and can hold up to 5 lbs worth of items!
Utilizing magnetic spice racks that you can affix to your fridge is a great way to avoid putting holes in your drywall and keeping your spices up and off your countertops.

Perfectly Mixed Peanut Butter—No Sweat Required!
Peanut butter is delicious, but that stubborn layer of oil on top? Not so much. Instead of breaking your arm trying to mix it by hand, here’s a simpler way to do it: grab your handheld mixer! Just take off one of the paddles, hold your jar tightly, and insert the other paddle into the peanut butter. Turn the blender on low, and let your mixer blend your peanut butter to perfection. In no time, you’ll have smooth, evenly mixed peanut butter without any mess. Clumpy peanut butter is now a thing of the past!

Microwave Cleaning Hack
It’s time to tackle that grimy microwave with our next DIY kitchen hack! This appliance turns into a horror show so, so quickly, don’t you think? Grab a measuring cup and fill it up with about 2 cups of water. Add a little dish soap to the mix and pop it into your microwave. Set it to heat up for about two minutes. You want the water to get nice and steamy, working to loosen up all the grease and grime.
Once the microwave cycle is done, don’t open it up right away. Let it mellow in there for another minute, allowing the steam to continue working its wonders, softening up all that gross gunk. Grab a paper towel or cloth and wipe away all that grease and grime. It just melts away!

Save Your Clothes from Dried Latex Paint
Got dried latex paint on your favorite shirt? Don’t panic! There’s an easy way to remove it. Place your clothing over a towel, bowl or bucket depending on the size of the clothes and how much water you’ll need to use. Start by pouring boiling water over the stain to soften it up. Then, grab a firm bristle brush and start scrubbing. Once the paint begins to lift, dab some rubbing alcohol onto the area and keep scrubbing until the paint is gone. It’s that simple—and your clothes are saved! This method also works for getting stains out of a carpet. Just make sure to do a spot test first!

Repair Scratched Furniture with Wood Markers
If your wooden furniture has small scratches, repair them with these wood markers. Over time, the finishes of our furniture can get little scratches and scrapes, and this is my favourite way to give them a new life! Start with the lightest color and work your way up until the scratch blends in perfectly. Gently wipe any excess ink with a microfiber cloth. It’s an easy fix that can make your furniture look good as new.

Keep Cheese Fresher, Longer
Say goodbye to struggling with plastic wrap that never stays put. Instead, try this genius cheese hack: after you’ve cut a piece off your block of cheese, cut a 2-inch piece off the end, packaging and all. Use the cut-off piece of the package as a little cap to cover the remaining cheese. It fits perfectly and keeps your cheese fresher for longer!

DIY Freezer Bag Ties
Those pesky freezer bags that just won’t stay closed? No more! Before you open a new bag of frozen food, cut a slit down the top of the bag. Use the two sides of the slit to tie a knot around the remaining food inside. This easy trick keeps your food fresh without the need for extra bag ties or clips.
Tin Foil to the Rescue for Grease
Pouring kitchen grease down the drain is a recipe for disaster, but here’s a hack that will keep your drains clog-free. Grab a sheet of tin foil, fold it into a small bowl, and place it in your sink. Pour the grease into the foil bowl, let it cool and harden, then simply crumple it up and toss it in the trash. Problem solved!

Chips and Dip, Elevated
Want to impress your guests with a simple but stylish party trick? Instead of setting out a separate bowl for your salsa or dip, use a coupe glass! Place the glass in the center of your chip bowl, and voilà ! You’ve got a chic, space-saving way to serve your favorite snack.

Create a Stunning Salami Rose
If you’re hosting a charcuterie night, here’s a little trick to elevate your spread: make a salami rose! Simply fold salami slices over the rim of a wine glass, overlapping them as you go. Continue to add pieces of salami in a circular motion around the lip of the glass. Once you’ve filled most of the glass and there’s only a small hole in the center, flip the glass onto your board and gently remove it. The result? A beautiful salami rose that looks as good as it tastes.

Sparkling Clean Oven Door
The inside of your oven door can get pretty grimy, but here’s a hack that’ll get it sparkling clean in no time. Begin by sprinkling the inside of your oven door with Barkeepers Friend. Then, spray it with water and scrub it with a firm bristle brush to soften the baked-on grease and grime. Grab a cleaning razor and gently scrape off the baked-on gunk. Just be careful to avoid scratching the glass. Wipe the glass clean. You’ll be amazed at how easily the grime comes off, leaving your oven door crystal clear!

Strip Herbs with a Cheese Grater
Did you know your cheese grater can double as an herb stripper? If you’re prepping fresh herbs for cooking, just pull the stem through one of the smaller holes on your grater. The leaves will strip right off, and you’re left with perfectly prepped herbs in seconds. It’s a quick and tidy trick that’ll save you time in the kitchen.

Great hacks! I’ve done the nail polish on keys hack you mentioned, thanks! This has helped my sister who is mentally handicapped, know which keys are for what lock. And of course, the keys are all gold and look similar, so this hack has worked perfectly. And on top of that, I chose Oiler colors. She’s very happy. 🙂
I’m definitely going to try a few more of these. The linen spray – love this! The water/vinegar water boil for smells, cause who hasn’t burnt something? LOL I’ve already added to my Amazon wish list the lint hose – because yes, super important.
And I love the wax paper chrome shine idea! Brilliant. I’ve always folded my towels the way you suggested, so yay me! LOL You’re right – they do look nice in the linen closet. 🙂 Thanks again! You are a lot of fun to follow. P.S. I also purchased some items via your web page from Amazon on Prime days. Looking forward to seeing if the under eye masks help the bags. Course, the heat wave isn’t helping. haha
Have a lovely weekend! ♥
