Home Decor Trends 2025: How to Get Them on a Budget

2025 is here and with that comes a new home decor trends discussion! Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or prefer to shop for your home decor items, it looks to be an exciting year for creative ideas and stylish finds. Plus, I am happy to report that certain trends that were big last year are big again this year, meaning you don’t have to worry about going out of style just yet. Let’s talk about the best new and enduring home decor trends of 2025 and how to get them on a budget!

As someone who loves art and decorating, I always find researching the latest trends in home decor fascinating. It’s interesting to see what’s gaining popularity and why, and to experience the shifts in the industry. Personally, I enjoy switching up my decor now and then, so I often incorporate trends in our home IF I love them, if we can afford them, and if they work for our family. As a general rule, though: you should decorate your home for YOU and YOUR FAMILY regardless of what’s trending. If you love a trend, have fun with it and give it a try! If not, decorate your home in a way that makes YOU happy and comfortable.

Example of a Trend I’m Not Trying

Natural wood kitchens are still a big thing this year. However, I always have and always will be a huge fan of white kitchens. I love how clean they look, and how shades of white instantly make a small space feel larger. Natural wood cabinets in kitchens are lovely, but it’s white kitchens forever in my world! If you feel just as strongly about a different trend (maybe you can’t stand vintage pieces and are afraid to say it out loud), stay true to yourself and do what you love in your own home.

As someone whose job is to scout out what people love in home decor and DIY, I’m always on the lookout for what’s new. I find decor trends online and in stores, and here’s where I usually look:

  • Social media (what are people sharing and loving on TikTok, Instagram & Pinterest?)
  • Google trends (what are people searching for?)
  • My favourite home decor stores (what’s new at Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, McGee & Co, Target, Crate & Barrel and could I make it for less?)
  • Interior designers (what do some of my favourite interior designers have to say about this season’s trends?)

Cottage Style Wallpaper

Wallpaper has been back on trend for a few years now, and I’m happy to report it continues to be popular! And the trendiest wallpaper style right now? Smaller scale florals and botanicals! I ADORE this trend because I’ve always loved floral patterns. This trend is perfect for adding a touch of whimsy and charm to your home. Think vintage florals, dainty patterns, and soft, nostalgic vibes.

Not only are we seeing wallpaper in bedrooms and living rooms, but we’re also seeing it in more unexpected places like kitchens and bathrooms. I love the comfort and depth a subtle floral print brings to any room, and I’m very excited to see it continue through this new year.

Natural Materials

There has been a move to use more eco-friendly materials in home decor over the past few years. Obviously, this means more natural materials are being used. This seems to be a long-lasting trend and I am here for it! Instead of plastics, designers are leaning towards wood, stone, cotton, rattan, jute, and other nature-inspired materials. It follows that home interiors then also feature more hues that can be found in nature, like warm wood tones, greens, and browns. Natural materials give lots of opportunities to add texture and warmth to a space and I’m really happy to see this trend continue.

To embrace this trend, try swapping out a plastic decor piece for something woven or wooden. For example, you can find woven baskets for just a few dollars each, and they double as storage!

Elevated Coffee Bar

Creating luxurious experiences at home has been popular for the past few years. With that goal in mind, there is more focus on designing hotel-like corners in our homes. A perfect example of this is an elevated coffee bar area. Gone are the days when a coffee machine was simply plopped on the kitchen counter. In 2025, we’re seeing stylish built-in coffee bars and drink bar areas. If you’re unsure how to create this luxury in your home, don’t worry. There’s always a way! Check out my post for ideas on how to create a coffee bar with a limited amount of space.

How to get this look on a budget?

  • Hack some IKEA kitchen cabinets or storage cabinets into a built-in look wall for your coffee and drink station. I used HAVSTA cabinets for mine!
  • Use a sideboard as a coffee bar, and install some simple floating shelves above it.
  • Rather than re-wiring your room for stylish wall sconces above your bar, use battery-operated rechargeable light bulbs inside the sconces.
  • Add some cute mugs, jars for your coffee beans, and a small tray for syrups or tea bags, and you’ve got yourself a high-end coffee station on a budget.
Every surface is the same colour: ceiling, trim, window frames, and any built-in features.

Colour Drenching

If you’re unsure what this trend is, look to the name! Colour drenching a space means drenching every surface in the same colour: ceiling, trim, window frames, and any built-in features. This is such a bold choice and really makes a statement! There are many things I like about this method. First, it it so much easier than taping off corners and trim and the lines around the ceiling. Since everything is the same colour, you can go ahead and paint stress-free! It’s also a great way to make any built-in features you don’t want to emphasize disappear. Hate that cold air return grate? Watch it fade into the background when it matches the wall around it! You can colour drench any room of your house, keeping in mind the colour you choose will change the feel of your space drastically. For example, choose light colours to make a space feel larger, or a dark colour to add a touch of luxury and elegance.

  • Decide what feel you want for your room and research what different colours will help you achieve that look.
  • Pick one affordable paint colour and go all-in. For furniture, use what you already have and give it a fresh coat of paint to match.

Warm Minimalism

This form of minimalist style takes all the clean lines, open spaces, lack of clutter, and neutral colors like whites, grays, and blacks that we love about minimalism and combines them with the warmth of natural materials and organic textures to create something new but similar. In other words, this style keeps the clean, uncluttered look we love but adds in natural textures and warm colours like caramel, taupe, and soft terracotta.

If you have always liked the simplicity of a minimalist decorating style and palette but also felt like a truly minimalist space is a bit cold and uninviting, this style is for you.  It still avoids the bold colours and celebration of stuff you will find in maximalism but allows you to add some comfort to your space!

How to get this look on a budget?

  • Stick with warm neutrals for your walls and furniture.
  • Choose just a few high quality accents and statement pieces to display, and make sure they look intentional.
  • Incorporate wood, pillows, and throws made from natural materials to add that warmth factor.
  • Add a few indoor plants to increase the natural vibe (but don’t overdo it!).
  • Focus on decluttering first— it’s free and so satisfying! Then, layer in cozy details like affordable jute rugs, thrifted pottery, and soft throws. The key is balancing simplicity with warmth.

Biophilic Design

This is one of the hottest interior design trends of the year, which should not be surprising considering the rise of the importance of eco-friendly materials and natural hues, wood, cotton, and other natural fibers that we are seeing pop up throughout other design trends. Biophilia is defined as “a desire to commune with nature”. So, biophilic design recognizes the fact that humanity now lives in a modern world but seeks to incorporate nature and sustainability INTO that world. This trend seeks to create a natural habitat that recognizes how important nature is to humanity and how much we need it in our lives to stay healthy and grounded. Biophilic design is all about connecting your home to nature, and I think it’s one of the most calming trends for 2025. Houseplants, natural light, and organic shapes are key here.

How to get this look on a budget?

  • Your inspiration here is nature. Choose a natural colour palette considering colours that can be found in the natural world.
  • Stick with natural elements like wood, granite, marble, and natural fibers like cotton, linen, and rattan and choose handcrafted pieces for a raw, organic feel.
  • Incorporate plants and lots of them. A plant wall would not be out of place for this trend! Abundance is key here.
  • Highlight the view out your window and let natural light in by avoiding heavy window coverings.
  • Create indoor/outdoor connection with sliding doors leading to outdoor spaces if you can renovate, or open windows when possible if you can’t!
  • Use wallpaper with subtle or bold patterns and colours found in nature, like leaves and certain geometric patterns.
  • Propagate plants from cuttings (you can even ask friends for some!), and shop secondhand for ceramic planters.

Warm & Natural Hues

Rich & bold colors in home decor continue to be popular. The recurring color trend that I’m seeing in interiors this year? Any and all warm tones! The trending colors of this year are mostly dark and usually complex. Think deep beiges, chocolatey browns, and rich, moody reds. These colours add so much depth and coziness to a space. This makes sense with the shift we are seeing to all things natural! People are going for earthy, cozy, and from-nature in their interior design choices. For example, if we look at the color red alone we see warm and vibrant hues like deep burgundy, oxblood, deep terracotta, and dark crimson tones.  The nice thing about this trend is that it complements other design trends discussed here, like colour drenching and warm minimalism. It’s so nice when trends tie in together!

How to get this look on a budget?

  • Give one room in your home a bold, warm paint colour. You can do one accent wall or all of them. Paint is a relatively inexpensive way to make a big change.
  • Sew some DIY throw pillow covers in a deep hue to add some bold colour to your living room or bedroom and complement your new paint colour choice.
  • Knit a cozy throw blanket with dark yarn to complement your space in a cozy way. Here’s how to make one with no knitting needles required!
  • Budget-friendly options for warm hued accessories like art and textiles are everywhere! Check out thrift stores and clearance sales for something your style in the right shade.
