Easy Porch Decorating Ideas on a Budget with Amazon Finds

If you’re looking for some easy but beautiful porch decorating ideas on a budget, today I’m going to take you along with me as I freshen up and decorate my porch and flower beds. With a few strategic changes and some fantastic Amazon finds, you can transform your outdoor space into a charming and cozy retreat without breaking the bank. Let’s get started!

Porch Seating Area Refresh

First up, let’s tackle the seating area. A clean, inviting space to relax is a must for any porch. Start by giving your outdoor cushions a good vacuum. If they’re particularly dirty or have stains, a quick power wash can do wonders. Thankfully, mine were in decent shape, so a thorough vacuuming was enough. You can also wipe down the hard surfaces on your outdoor furniture with a solution of dish soap and water to make it look fresh for the season.

Next, it’s time for some new throw pillows for a pop of color. I’m super excited to share that these pillow covers are fresh from my shop, Cozy Prairie Linens Co. I’ve designed them myself, and they’re woven in India by some amazing artisans. They’re durable, have a zipper back, and come in lovely patterns like warm blue gingham, natural stripes, and fringed designs for that cozy cottage look. These pillows are not only stylish but also practical, making them a great addition to any outdoor space.

To add an extra layer of comfort, I’m also draping a generously sized throw blanket from my shop over the couch. It’s perfect for those cooler evenings when you want to snuggle up outside. Now, our seating area is ready for everything from summer morning coffees to relaxing with my girls.

To complete the cozy setup, I’m giving our coffee table a good clean, making sure to get both the top and underneath the glass. Then, I’m decorating it with a simple wooden flower tray, some faux greenery, and an Everlasting Candle. This arrangement adds a charming touch to the space, making it even more inviting for the warmer months.

Weeding & Mulching Flower Beds

Next, let’s give some attention to the flower beds & tidy them up for some curb appeal. These are filled with easy-care perennials, but they definitely needed a good weeding this spring. Pulling weeds by hand might not be the most glamorous task, but it’s essential for keeping your garden healthy and beautiful.

After clearing out the weeds and quack grass, it’s time to add more mulch. I’ve switched to a brown mulch from Walmart because it doesn’t draw as much heat as the black mulch I used to use. Sprinkle the mulch around your beds and spread it out with a rake. Fresh mulch not only makes your flower beds look tidier but also helps keep the weeds at bay. And when they do pop up, the mulch makes them easier to pull out.

In my front beds, I have a beautiful Rudolph crabapple tree, some hardy cherry trees, lots of peonies that will bloom in mid-June, hardy roses, and Miss Kim Lilacs. I’m eagerly waiting for them to bloom, especially the crabapple tree—it’s definitely my favorite in the yard! You can read all about the hardy trees, shrubs and perennials I have in my front flower beds right here.

Creating a Solar Fountain Planter

One of the trickiest spots in my flower bed is a bare area where nothing seems to grow, thanks to our pets constantly walking over it. Inspired by a unique planter idea I saw on Instagram from my friends Jodie & Kim, I decided to try something new.

For this project, I picked up a large barrel-style planter and a smaller one from Walmart. The key is to make sure the smaller planter doesn’t have drainage holes. I also grabbed some of my favorite annual flowers: white petunias and blue trailing lobelia.

At home, I filled the large planter about halfway with sand to avoid using too much potting soil. After placing the planter in the flower bed and ensuring it was level, I added a few inches of potting soil and placed the smaller planter in the center. Then, I planted my flowers around the smaller planter, alternating between the petunias and trailing lobelia. I can’t wait to see how they look once they’ve filled out!

To complete the project, I filled the smaller planter with water and added a solar-powered fountain I found on Amazon. This fountain has interchangeable top pieces to create different patterns, and it’s such a charming addition to our garden. The sound of the water is so relaxing, and it adds a delightful visual element to the space. You can get the full step-by-step instructions and tutorial video for this DIY solar planter right here.

Front Door Decor

Now, let’s freshen up the front door area. Start by removing the old entry mat and faux planters, then give the door and porch floor a good clean. For a classic French cottage feel, I’m laying down a budget-friendly black and white striped outdoor rug from Amazon and layering a simple welcome mat on top. I love the look of layered rugs at an entry!

I also found some tall planters on Amazon that come in pairs, which are perfect for placing on either side of the front door. To add a touch of greenery without the hassle of maintenance, I’m using faux boxwood spheres. These are a great size and look incredibly realistic. Just assemble them and pop one in each planter.

To enhance the French country vibe, I’m placing potted lavender plants from Walmart around the planters. The lavender not only looks beautiful but also adds a lovely fragrance to the porch. I’m adding some old rustic lanterns I had on hand by the potted lavender. Finally, a simple faux boxwood wreath on the front door ties everything together, creating a fresh and welcoming entrance for the season.

Hanging Siding Planters

If you have vinyl siding like I do, siding clips are a game-changer for hanging front porch decor. These handy clips allow you to hang string lights or planters without causing any damage. I’m adding some to our siding by the front entry and over my vintage rocking chair, and hanging a beautiful wicker basket from each one. While you could add real plants to these planters since they’re lined with plastic, I’m opting for faux lavender and fern stems from my shop. Faux stems are fantastic because you can shape them just the way you want, and they last for years.

With these simple updates, my front porch and flower beds look fresh, cozy, and ready for the season. I love the classic and simple style we’ve achieved this year, and I can’t wait to see our flowers grow and bloom. I know we’re going to make so many wonderful memories out here this summer.
