IKEA Hack: Create a Picture Hanging System that Looks High End

Have you seen the beautiful hanging art rail systems like this one used to display art or photos on your wall? Let me show you how to get the look for less using IKEA and Amazon products! This is one of my favourite hacks for picture hanging systems from IKEA!

I love the look of picture frames hanging from a rail by a chain. It’s such a pretty & unique way to display your favourite art or photos! However, by the time you purchase one of these picture hanging systems PLUS the photo frames, you could be spending hundreds of dollars. Here’s how to get the look for a fraction of the cost!
(P.S. My beautiful candle is from my shop by Everlasting Candle Co. The wicks are encased in metal tubes, and placed in this lovely vase full of oil.)

Sourcing & Installing the Rail
First, pick up an IKEA HULTARP rail in the width you want. I love the brass version and it’s the perfect IKEA item to use for picture hanging systems! Next, you’ll also need to grab a pack of the matching HULTARP hooks.
Mount the rail to your wall using screws and drywall anchors if needed. Ensure that the rail is at least 3 feet from the top of furniture if you’re mounting it above a piece of furniture like I am. (This sideboard is also an IKEA hack – check it out here & learn how I paint IKEA furniture!)

Attaching the Hanging Picture Frames
Now, order the Umbra Fotochain set from Amazon (find it HERE in CANADA and find it HERE in the USA). It comes in a brass colour that matches the rail nicely! Attach the HULTARP hooks to the rail, and then suspend the chains of the photo frames from the hooks. The Fotochain set does come with wall hooks if you don’t want to do use a rail at all.

I love how this hanging art rail turned out, and at around $50 it’s much more affordable than other versions of this photo hanging look.
Want a longer hanging art rail? You could buy two of the IKEA HULTARP rails, mount them together, and buy two of the Umbra Fotochain sets for 6 suspended frames altogether.
Tell me: What do you think of this IKEA hack picture hanging system? Would you create it for your home?

I love this idea. It looks good.
I’m curious about whether you can cut the rails to size
These rails are 60cm, so they aren’t very long. They are hung with a screw in the end, trimming them would take that away.
