Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for—it’s cozy, inviting, and bursting with warm colors. Whether you’re preparing for Thanksgiving or just want to bring that Autumnal magic to your everyday dinners, creating a cozy Fall tablescape doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, you can set up a beautiful fall-inspired dining table using budget-friendly items and a few simple DIY tricks. Today, I’m going to show you how I created a cozy fall dining experience outside, but you can absolutely recreate this indoors as well.

Let’s start with the key piece that inspired this whole setup: a plaid tablecloth!
Step 1: Find Your Inspiration Piece
When it comes to decorating, I love starting with one item that sets the tone for the entire design. For this tablescape, it all began with a plaid tablecloth I found on Amazon. This tablecloth is a lovely mix of warm browns, subtle orange, golden hues, and soft cream tones—classic Autumn colors that instantly make any space feel cozy.

Once I laid the tablecloth out on my folding table, I knew the rest of my elements would follow this palette. That’s a little trick I like to use when designing any tablescape or room—find one textile, plate, or decorative piece that really speaks to you, and let it guide the color palette and style of the rest of your setup.
In this case, the plaid tablecloth was my “muse,” and it made it super easy to pull together everything else on the table. Don’t worry if you don’t have a fancy dining table for outdoor gatherings—you can absolutely use a simple folding table and hide it with a beautiful seasonal tablecloth like this one!

Step 2: Start with a Simple Centerpiece
Once the tablecloth was in place, I moved on to the centerpiece. I wanted something that felt elegant but still warm and approachable, so I went with gold candlesticks that I already had on hand. If you don’t own any, you can find affordable options online or at thrift stores.
To give them a cozy fall twist, I tied some simple ribbon bows around each one. Here’s a fun hack I love: I actually used velvet hair clip bows for a few of them! These little velvet clips are an inexpensive way to add a soft, luxurious texture, and they’re so easy to remove and reuse later.
The gold candlesticks add a touch of elegance, while the velvet bows bring in a bit of texture and coziness, perfectly complementing the warm tones of the plaid tablecloth.

Step 3: DIY Fall Floral Arrangement
Now that the candlesticks were in place, I wanted to add some natural, seasonal elements to the table. I love using faux florals and greenery in my decor because you can reuse them year after year, and they’re often more budget-friendly than fresh flowers.
For this setup, I created some DIY floral rings using foam wreath rings I picked up at Dollarama. These foam rings are so versatile—you can use them to create wreaths, garlands, or in this case, table decor. I cut up some faux Fall florals I already had on hand and simply stuck them into the foam rings. It’s so easy, and you don’t need any special skills or tools! I used stems in colours inspired by my tablecloth.
Once the floral rings were full of beautiful faux Autumn leaves and flowers, I placed them around the base of the candlesticks. This added a lovely natural element to the table, making it feel more grounded and connected to the season. To finish off the look, I added some mini white pumpkins from a local farm around the floral rings. These little neutral pumpkins are such a cute, seasonal touch, and they’re perfect for Fall theme tablescapes.
Pro tip: If you can’t find mini pumpkins locally, try using pinecones, acorns, pears, or even apples for a similar look.

Step 4: Add Classic White Dinnerware
Next up—dinnerware! When it comes to setting a table, I’m a big fan of using classic white dishes. They’re a timeless investment because they work for any season and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. I’ve had these white textured plates for years, and they’re still a go-to for all my tablescapes. I layered my salad plates over my dinner plates for a simple textured look.
To add a bit of contrast and warmth, I paired the white plates with gold and white cutlery. Gold flatware adds a touch of sophistication while still feeling festive for fall. You can find affordable gold cutlery online or at stores like HomeSense, Amazon, or Walmart. If you’re looking for something even more budget-friendly, you can opt for gold plastic cutlery, which looks elegant but costs a fraction of the price!
I also added natural linen cloth napkins to each place setting, secured with rattan napkin rings. Linen napkins are another great investment because they add an organic, textured feel to your table, and you can reuse them for years. Plus, rattan napkin rings tie in perfectly with the natural, earthy tones of this cozy Fall tablescape.

Step 5: Thrifted Amber Glassware
One of my favorite budget-friendly decorating tips is to check out your local thrift store for unique glassware. For this tablescape, I found some gorgeous amber glass goblets at a thrift store, and they were perfect for adding a pop of warm, seasonal color.
Amber glassware is great for fall because it complements the warm, earthy tones of the season and adds a vintage, cozy mood to your table. The great thing about thrifting is that you can find beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces for a fraction of the cost of new items. Plus, mix-and-match glassware is totally in style, so don’t worry if you can’t find a complete set—just embrace the eclectic look!

Step 6: Mix and Match Chairs
Now, let’s talk seating! Don’t worry if you don’t have a perfectly matched set of dining chairs. For this cozy Fall tablescape, I used a mix of black and grey, and they totally worked together. Mixing and matching chairs adds character to your setup and gives it a more casual, relaxed feel.
If you’re decorating indoors, you can easily mix up your seating by bringing in different chairs from around the house. Don’t be afraid to get creative—sometimes the best designs come from combining unexpected elements!

Step 7: Enjoy the Cozy Glow at Golden Hour
The final step? Let your table shine in the soft, golden light of the evening. I love setting up outdoor tablescapes for Fall because the golden hour light makes everything feel extra warm and cozy. The candles flickered in the breeze, the amber glassware glowed, and the entire table felt like an inviting haven amongst the gorgeous Fall leaves!
Even if you’re setting this up indoors, you can recreate the same cozy glow with candlelight or string lights to bring that magical fall feeling into your home.

And that’s it! A cozy, fall-inspired dining table that’s perfect for Thanksgiving or any Fall gathering. With just a few budget-friendly items, a little DIYing, and some thrift store finds, you can create a table that feels warm, inviting, and perfect for the season.
Remember, the key to decorating on a budget is to start with one inspiring piece—like my plaid tablecloth—and let that guide the rest of your design. Use what you already have, thrift for unique finds, and don’t be afraid to get creative with DIY projects. With these tips, you’ll be able to create a beautiful fall dining experience on a gorgeously set table without breaking the bank.

Very creative. Remember, if you have a fabric stash, you can always use fabric if you don’t have a tablecloth. If you are a perfection, iron the folded under edges and use Stitch Witchery to hold in place.
I love white dishes too. When there were lots of factory outlets, I would buy colorful or seasonal salad plates.
I find really neat random seasonal items at Dollar General, Family Dollar or Dollar Tree. A couple of years back I found some awesome melamine pumpkin plates. My goal is pretty, not pricey.
