In our basement guest bedroom, I installed an oversized floral mural that became the room’s focal point. It was like adding a piece of art directly to the wall, creating a stunning visual impact. I love a good oversized floral, but you can find all sorts of realistic looking wallpaper murals that look like a brick wall, a stone accent wall, a landscape, a wood accent wall, a giant oil painting… the options are endless!

To install a wallpaper mural, you’ll need the mural panels, wallpaper paste (if it’s not peel and stick), a smoothing tool, and a utility knife. Start by planning the layout and marking where each panel will go. Apply the paste to the wall or the back of the panel, then carefully position the panel on the wall, smoothing out any bubbles as you go. Trim any excess at the edges with a utility knife. The result is a breathtaking wall that can transport you to another place or evoke a particular mood.
