You’ll need a mini Christmas tree, a plastic ice bucket, floral foam, moss, brown and gold craft paint, white paint, and Dollar Tree twinkle lights.

Start by giving the plastic ice bucket quick, messy strokes of metallic gold paint. Once that is dry, lightly dry-brush brown paint over top. Don’t worry about making it perfect — the uneven finish is what gives the bucket a worn, vintage look instead of looking like plastic.

While the paint dries, fluff out the tree and gently point the branches downward for a more natural, old-fashioned shape. Unscrew and remove the tree stand, then place floral foam inside the bucket and press the tree into the foam. Tuck moss around the base to hide the foam.

For a snowy flocked effect, lightly brush white paint across the tips of the branches. Finish with Dollar Tree twinkle lights and, if you’d like, clip a pretty bow hair clip at the top. It is such a sweet little Christmas accent for a mantel, entryway table, shelf, or side table.

Carefully pull out the stitching along one end of a tree placemat to create an opening. Fill the placemat with fibre fill; I love using stuffing from an old pillow for projects like this. Once it is full and fluffy, glue or sew the opening closed again.

To make the design look extra special, use puffy fabric paint over the snowy areas of the trees. Apply small strokes from the bottom upward so the paint has a raised, textured appearance. This simple detail gives the pillow the look of an embroidered boutique find.

Style it on a sofa, accent chair, guest bed, or holiday bench with a cozy throw blanket. It is a sweet, inexpensive way to bring more texture and personality to your Christmas decorating.

15. Framed Christmas Art with a Velvet Bow

This framed Christmas art is one of those Dollar Tree DIYs that looks surprisingly high-end when it is finished. You’ll need a gold document frame, a Christmas plaid placemat, a tree-shaped pot holder, and red velvet ribbon.

Start by cutting the tree design out of the pot holder. Next, trim the plaid placemat to fit inside the frame. Cut a square opening in the middle of the placemat that is slightly smaller than the tree design.

To create a clean, custom-mat look, snip a diagonal slit into each corner of the square opening. Fold the edges back and hot glue them down. Then hot glue the tree design into the centre opening, place everything inside the gold frame, and add the backing.

For an extra vintage-inspired touch, use a length of red velvet ribbon to create a triangle above the frame, like an old-fashioned picture hanger. Add a full velvet bow at the top of the ribbon triangle.

To make the bow, cut about 36 inches of velvet ribbon. Wrap one end around your pointer finger three times, then wrap it around your extended pointer finger and thumb twice. Take the other end, wrap it around the centre of the loops, pull it through itself, and tighten. Fluff the loops until you have a full, pretty bow.

Use a picture-hanging strip to attach the frame to the wall and a sticky dot to secure the bow. The finished piece looks like something you would find at a high-end holiday home decor store — but for a fraction of the price.
