Looking for a fun and easy fall craft? Learn how to make a beautifully embroidered fall pillow from Dollar Tree towels. This is an easy and inexpensive craft that’s so perfect for your autumn decor!

I know it’s only August, and we are all still enjoying summer. But it’s time to start thinking about some fall decor ideas so that when it’s time to DIY & decorate for the coming season, you’ll be ready to go!

This homemade pillow is SO easy to make. I started with some plaid towels from Dollar Tree, added some simple embroidery, sewed them together, and popped a pillow form inside. It’s so simple and inexpensive for a cute fall decor accessory!

Watch the video below to see how to make this DIY fall pillow. Or, follow the written instructions below:
How to make a DIY embroidered fall pillow from Dollar Tree tea towels
Materials:
- 2 Dollar Tree plaid kitchen towels
- Paper, computer, & printer to print embroidery design
- Pencil
- Painter’s or scotch tape
- Embroidery floss
- Embroidery needle
- Sewing machine
- Needle & thread
Directions:

Click on the image above to download a high-resolution version of this “grateful” design and print it onto an 8 1/2 x 11″ sheet of paper.

Scribble some pencil over the reverse side of the print, just covering the letters.

Centre the print right-side-up on one of the kitchen towels and tape it in place. Trace over the letters with a pen or firm pencil to transfer the letters onto the towel.

Trace over the transferred letters with a pencil if you’d like them to be darker.

Using embroidery floss and an embroidery needle, use a back stitch to embroider over the pattern you’ve traced. Here’s how to back stitch.

Pin the second kitchen towel to the first one, right sides together. Make sure you match all the plaid stripes for a consistent design.

Sew the towels together around the perimeter, leaving a 12″ opening at the bottom of your pillow cover and a 1/2″ seam allowance.

Clip the corners of your pillow cover and then turn it right-side-out. Stuff a 10″ x 20″ or a 12″ x 24″ pillow form inside your DIY pillow cover.

Use a blind stitch to sew the opening of the pillow cover shut.

All done! You can wash your new fall pillow by hand (or use the hand wash setting on your washing machine) and lay it flat to dry.

This $7 Fall DIY Dollar Tree Wreath is LIT!
Another fun, Dollar Tree DIY is this $7 fall wreath! All you need is a grapevine wreath base, copper wire lights, a burlap pumpkin, a rose stem, a wheat stem, a hydrangea stem, and some burlap oak leaves. Grab your glue gun and put it all together.

I absolutely love your DIYs!!! You make Dollar Tree products look high end and something I’d want to display in my home! I love them all, but my very favorites are the grateful pillow & the baby pumpkins are so sweet, but I really love them all. Keep them coming & can’t wait to see Halloween!!!
Thanks Theresa!
I think they came out fantastic! I like the towel that you chose, too.

Thanks so much!!
I really live this idea, thanks for sharing! I am going to do this with only one modification. I am going to attach a few buttons on the bottom so it acts kind of like a duvet cover. This way I can use the same pillow insert with other tea towel cases seasonally.
These are the CUTEST! You always have the best ideas!
Happy day!
