What You’ll Need from the Dollar Store & Amazon

I started my journey at Dollar Tree and Dollarama, where I picked up all sorts of items like:

  • mason jars (large & small)
  • spatulas
  • sprinkles
  • mugs
  • popcorn & other snacks
  • candy canes
  • popcorn containers
  • spa accessories
  • cozy socks
  • hot chocolate
  • tea & coffee
  • and more!

Dollar stores are goldmines for affordable, versatile items that can easily be transformed into something special. You can use my gift basket ideas below as a guide when purchasing your dollar store items, or get creative with your own Christmas basket theme ideas!

For the base of my gift baskets, I used adorable tin buckets I found on Amazon (find them here in Canada and find them here in the USA). They came in a bundle of six for a great price and are perfect for creating a cohesive look. These tins are sturdy, reusable, and so easy to dress up with custom decals and labels. I love that they’re a useful part of the gift that your recipient can reuse and enjoy!

You’ll also need to grab some paper shred basket filler, festive ribbon & string from the dollar store.

Personalizing Your Baskets with Cricut

To take these baskets to the next level, I turned to my Cricut Explore 3. You don’t have to do this step when making your baskets, but it’s sure fun if you’re a Cricut lover like me! Cricut’s Design Space made it a breeze to create custom decals for the tins and matching labels for the mason jars. Adding personalized touches like names or festive designs instantly elevates these gifts, making them look far more expensive than they actually are.

Here’s a peek at what I designed:

  • Themed decals for the tin buckets
  • Cute labels for the mason jars, like “Sugar Cookies Mix” or “DIY Coffee Syrup”
  • Gift tags in coordinating colors to tie everything together

You can find my Cricut Design Space file for this project here if you want to use it for your gift baskets too!

After cutting the decals and tags on my Cricut machine, I applied them to the tins and jars with ease. I love how this took my simple containers up a notch and creates a beautiful base for these budget-friendly but unique gifts!

Themed Christmas Gift Baskets

Now for the fun part: assembling the baskets! I created six themes, each with its own personality and flair. I started each basket with a layer of natural coloured paper shred at the bottom of the basket to add height.

1. Snow Day Survival Kit

This dollar store gift basket is perfect for a cozy winter day. Start with a layer of paper shred in the bottom of the tin, then add:

  • Sugar Cookies in a Jar: Layer 1 1/3 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a mason jar. Tie on a label with baking instructions (you can grab the free printable here!).
  • Marshmallows in a mason jar
  • Hot chocolate packages
  • A festive cookie cutter
  • Cozy socks
  • A festive lollipop

The result? A cheerful, practical gift that’s ideal for anyone who loves to bake—or eat!

2. Movie Night in a Tin

This one’s all about fun and relaxation:

  • Caramel popcorn
  • Cute popcorn containers
  • Candy
  • A gift card for streaming movies

Tuck everything neatly into the tin, and you’ve got an instant ticket to a cozy movie marathon. This is a perfect gift for a family or neighbour!

3. Spa Day in a Tin

Who doesn’t need a little pampering? For this luxe themed gift basket, include:

  • Epsom salts in a mason jar
  • Nail files
  • Tea
  • Pumice stone
  • Cozy candle
  • An Amazon gift card for splurging on skincare

This basket is perfect for anyone who deserves a little “me time.”

4. Winter Cold Survival Kit

Cold weather calls for comfort! Fill this basket with:

  • Lemon juice and honey (both in cute containers)
  • A cozy mug
  • Tea
  • A mason jar filled with epsom salts
  • Another gift card for extra cheer

It’s a sweet way to show you care.

5. Coffee Lover Kit

For the caffeine enthusiast in your life, this basket includes:

  • DIY Maple Vanilla Syrup: Mix 1/2 cup maple syrup with 2 teaspoons vanilla in a mason jar. Label it for a polished touch.
  • Coffee
  • Cookies
  • Peppermint candy spoons
  • Marshmallow stir stick

This thoughtful combo will keep their mornings merry and bright.

6. Christmas Baking Kit

Similar to the Snow Day Kit but tailored for serious bakers, this includes:

  • Another Sugar Cookies in a Jar mix
  • A spatula & cookie cutter set from Dollarama
  • A festive tea towel
  • A jar of sprinkles for holiday flair

Final Touches for a High-End Look

Once all the items were assembled in their respective tins, I tied everything together with matching bows and tags. This step is so simple yet so impactful—coordinated details make the baskets look polished and professional.

Even though each tin cost less than $20 to create, they look like boutique-quality gifts. If you want to add more value, you can always pop in a gift card, but these baskets are perfect as they are.
