Whether you’re helping decorate a beach house, a beach-themed party, or simply want to make your home feel fresh for the season, I hope you love these easy & creative ideas.

It’s so much fun to add a DIY touch to items found in the dollar store to make them match my decor for a seasonal update on a budget. I also love hitting up the dollar store for craft supplies to make completely new items! Here are some ideas on summer decor you could make with items from Dollar Tree this season. You can also watch the video at the end of this post for all of the step-by-step instructions on how to make these! You don’t have to be super crafty to make these: all you need are cheap dollar store supplies, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, some paint, and some creativity!

1: “Vacation Fund” Shabby Chic Frame Bank

Paint and distress the frame of this cute Dollar Tree frame bank, add a fabric backing and glue on a pretty raffia ribbon bow and you have a beachy bank that’s cute and useful!

Make sure to remove the cardboard backing and use masking tape to tape off the front of the glass on the frame before you paint the frame. I used some white chalk style paint for a coastal, distressed look for this project. To attach some fabric to the backing of this frame, you can use hot glue. The natural fibers of the bow and cotton fabric give this frame a beautiful, coastal look.

2: Beachy Succulent Bowl

Hot glue some jute twine around the top of a plastic dollar store bowl, pour some turquoise decorative rocks or sand inside, and decorate with faux succulents and sea shells on top of the sand or rocks for a summery table top display.

You could also create this simple centerpiece for your summer table setting or side table by using sand from your last beach vacation. It’d be a wonderful way to remember all the fun you had! The pastel colors of this bowl are also such a fresh & pretty way to bring summer into your home.

3: Nautical Glass Lantern

Upcycle an old pickle jar into a sea-worthy lantern by wrapping it with Dollar Tree decorative fishing net and finishing it off with twine.

I used hot glue to attach the ends of the string of the fishing net and twine to the jar, and then I placed a pillar candle inside to create a simple but beautiful centerpiece with a coastal flair. Make a couple of these and use them as decor on your summer front porch; they’d look lovely flanking a front door in front of some planters!

You could also use this nautical jar as a summer-themed vase for a small bouquet of flowers. Choose flowers in blues and greens for that coastal décor look.

4: Rustic Succulent Planter

Paint and distress a Dollar Tree light wood box with paint & stain, fill it with floral foam, and top it with moss and faux succulents for an easy but adorable addition to your coffee table.

This simple DIY farmhouse coastal faux planter would also make a beautiful dining table centerpiece for a casual summer gathering. You could also use a thrifted basket for the base of this display! How beautiful would a few of these be as a beach wedding centerpiece, too?!

5: Summery Photo Frame

Adding paint, decorative fishing net and shells gives the clothesline photo frame currently at Dollar Tree the perfect nautical spin for the season!

I removed the back off this frame, and spray painted it a coastal blue colour. I pulled the decorative netting over the painted backing, and then tacked it to the frame with some hot glue. Finally, I painted the frame, sanded it to distress it, popped it onto the backing, and glued small seashells and a twine bow onto the frame with my hot glue gun.

6. Beach Themed Seashell Wreath

Use a grapevine wreath from Dollar Tree as a base, then add some seashells, a succulent, a raffia ribbon bowl, and a small glass beaded garland to one side of the wreath with hot glue.

I love all of the texture of this wreath from the natural materials, and it looks so summery with the green colours, blue colours, and beachy touches.
