Welcoming Entryway
When you step through the front door, you’re greeted by an inviting entryway that sets the tone for the house. My mom has a natural talent for creating spaces that make you feel right at home! She also has a real gift for cozy cottage home decor ideas that balance charm and function.
The focal point here is a vintage bench she found at a thrift store. Its fresh coat of weathered wood-coloured stain adds a lovely touch of colour against the crisp white board & batten walls. On the bench are some DIY cushions in coastal hues of blue and cheerful florals.

On top of a thrifted stool, she’s placed a basket filled with a fiddle leaf fig. This simple arrangement brings in a bit of nature and adds life to the space. Plants are such a great way to add natural textures and warmth! Above the bench, a pair of botanical prints in weathered green frames creates visual interest and adds another little pop of colour.
A warm, patterned area rug on the wood floors pulls everything together and adds a cozy layer underfoot.

Cozy Living Room
As we move into the living room, you’ll see where my mom’s love for cozy, vintage style really shines. The room is filled with natural light. The comfy seating areas are accented with DIY floral-printed pillows that bring a warm, homey feel to the space. (Plus, the same printed pillow sits on the entryway bench for a cohesive touch of comfort!)
To incorporate the coastal theme, she’s mixed in some adorable nautical decor. The navy blue glass jugs and unique shelf accents tie in perfectly with the lake house setting. On the mantel, there’s a sweet mix of her grandkids’ art, faux greenery, and a round mirror in a warm brass frame that adds dimension and charm.

Rattan baskets on the coffee table add texture, and so do the varying wood tones in the architectural details. It’s all about layering textures and styles to create a space that feels lived-in and full of personality.
The balance of vintage florals with coastal colours keeps it from feeling too busy. You’ll also spot a few vintage pieces picked up at flea markets and thrift stores. These give the space character that has truly stood the test of time.

Dining Room
In the dining area, a blend of rustic and vintage elements creates a space that’s always ready for easy dinners with friends and family. The centrepiece is a rustic wooden table that was a DIY project in itself. My mom had this piece for decades and gave it a new life with a new finish, creating a bright yet cozy feel.

Around the dining table, she’s set out her collection of dishware. Each piece has a story, gathered over the years from various friends and periods. The varied patterns and textures bring in that collected-over-time look so typical of a cozy cottage home decor style. And those adorable crocheted chargers and floral napkins? My mom made these, and I think they’re so pretty! They’re the perfect coastal details that tie the theme together and make every meal feel special.

One of the joys of the cottage style is how it allows you to celebrate imperfections and eclectic collections. In this dining room, nothing matches perfectly, but everything works together beautifully. The overall look is stylish but not too polished—perfect for everyday use or hosting guests.

Bright and Airy Kitchen
The mostly-white kitchen is all about simplicity and functionality with a touch of whimsy that makes it practical and delightful. Glass-doored white kitchen cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling show off Mom’s collection of white and blue dishes, keeping the room bright while adding a soft splash of visual interest. The pastel colours reflect the light beautifully.
I love how the white shaker cabinets and silver hardware keep things clean and timeless. The subway tile backsplash and faux marble countertops give it that classic, cozy cottage feel. The white farmhouse sink and stainless steel appliances balance modern convenience with vintage charm.

Fresh herbs on the kitchen island are both decorative and practical. They add a pop of green and make cooking even more enjoyable! A few subtle patterns—like stripes on the rug, checkered hand towels, and soft floral prints on accessories—bring just the right amount of playfulness.
In a kitchen, it’s easy to get caught up in trends. However, keeping the basics simple and adding personality through small details is a timeless approach. Personal accents that are easy to swap out are paired with timeless white cabinets, white subway tile, faux marble countertops, a white farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances.

Primary Bathroom
This bathroom is the definition of relaxation, a serene space that feels like a mini spa retreat. The decor here is mostly white, creating a fresh, airy feel that’s perfect for unwinding. The bathtub by the window offers a view of the lake, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing soak while enjoying the natural scenery. The polished chrome light fixtures and faucet are a classic choice, reminiscent of a vintage farmhouse bathroom. White cabinetry is both practical and fresh in this simple & beautiful space.

Faux greenery placed near the tub adds a touch of nature and a subtle splash of colour, making the space feel alive and inviting. If you’re tight on floor space, keep the decor simple and focus on natural elements—this helps keep clutter to a minimum and maintains a tranquil atmosphere.

Adding some Turkish towels and a soft cotton bathrobe from my Cozy Prairie Linens store really ups the cozy cottage feel.

Cozy Primary Bedroom
Finally, we arrive at the primary bedroom, the epitome of cozy comfort. The bed is layered with an eclectic mix of quilts and pillows in soft, calming shades of coral, white, and light blue. It’s all about texture here—cotton, linen, and quilted fabrics that feel as good as they look.
Weathered wood-coloured bedside tables on either side of the bed provide a place for nighttime essentials and add more cozy cottage home decor charm. Little coastal elements made out of natural materials, like a vintage look sign and a boat-shaped tray, add a subtle nod to the seaside theme and tie the decor together.

Creating a cozy bedroom is all about layering textures and incorporating personal touches. Mixing family heirlooms with light, airy fabrics and subtle coastal accents creates a space that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
