How to Sew DIY Curtains at Home (with Easy-to-Follow Steps)

Curtains are such a great way to change your space, and they are such an easy project for beginners too! In this post, I’m going to show you how I completely changed the look of our breakfast nook using the power of new fabric. I had a simple white curtain in a lace fabric from IKEA accenting the bay window at first. It was pretty, but I just didn’t love the look anymore. When I found an over-the-top floral fabric in shades that match our black & white kitchen, I knew some DIY drapes would be the perfect way to bring this little nook to life. I was going for a Cottagecore/Granny Chic vibe, and I will let you judge whether or not I pulled it off! Even if you’ve only tried your sewing machine a handful of times, you can make these drapes with pleater tape! This type of curtain requires all straight seams, so with a few sewing supplies, they are achievable for just about anyone.

DIY slipcovers on armchairs in a living room.

How to Make an Easy Slipcover for a Stylish Chair Makeover

Making DIY slip covers for your armchairs is a wonderful way to completely change their look without buying a whole new set of chairs. With these step-by-step instructions, I’m going to teach you how to make your own custom slipcover pattern, cut your fabric pieces, and sew your own easy & beautiful chair slipcovers! I adore my pair of Wynn Accent Chairs from The Brick because they have gorgeous, classic lines and I think their quality is amazing. But their paisley pattern limits the other patterns I can add to our living room, and I’ve always enjoyed the fresh & airy look of white slipcovers for the summer months. So, I enlisted my mom to help me make some DIY slipcovers for these gorgeous chairs. Come get the easy tutorial and make your own slipcovers to give your chairs some extra versatility!

Homemade throw pillows sitting on a sofa.

Sew a Tassel Pillow Cover

I’ve always loved any sort of trim with texture like tassels, lace, and fringe. I’m so excited that tasseled pillows are still a popular decor feature for any season! Me being me, I decided to make my own set of tasseled pillows when I decided I needed some for my own space. I used a heavy cotton in a window pane pattern, but you could use any scrap fabric you have laying around. Plus, you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to make your own tassels right from scratch! My easy tutorial will guide you throw the whole pillow-making process, even if you are a beginner sewer looking for an easy project.

Faux relaxed roman shade in a kitchen window.

How to Make the Easiest DIY Faux Relaxed Roman Shade

Window treatments can be SO expensive! I’ve discovered that this problem disappears when I make my own. So, if you’re ready to add a touch of elegance to your windows without breaking the bank, get excited because I’m about to show you how to make the easiest DIY faux relaxed Roman shade! This DIY project is not only simple with a lot of straight-line sewing. It’s also incredibly satisfying! I love how it looks in the little window over our kitchen sink. Best part? There are no cords to deal with! (This DIY Roman shade is not a functioning shade since I didn’t need any privacy function over our kitchen sink. However, if you want to make a real Roman shade that actually functions, I have a full tutorial for a DIY Roman shade right here.) Blinds or shades are a wonderful window covering solution if you can’t install long drapery, so they’re perfect for a kitchen or laundry room window.

A pillow cover is given a quilted effect by sewing a simple running stitch.

With a little bit of creativity and effort, you can create beautiful and unique textured throw pillows for a gorgeous accent in your home. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a DIY throw pillow with a faux quilted effect – a simple yet impressive project that will add a touch of elegance to your living space. There’s no sewing machine required, and I promise it’s super easy and fun too! All you need is a needle, yarn, and a simple running stitch pattern. Sew Linen Napkins (+ How to Make a Rolled Hem with a Serger)

Linen napkins are so sophisticated and gorgeous, and they’re a pretty way to formalize a table setting for Christmas dinner or other special occasions where you set a fancy table. I hosted Christmas Day dinner at our home one year and I wanted to make our Christmas table extra special. I found a piece of off-white linen in my stash of fabric, perfect for cloth napkins. With the help of my serger, I whipped up 8 DIY linen napkins in less than an hour! An ugly keyboard stand is covered with a fitted skirt.

Sew a Fitted Skirt for a Keyboard Stand Cover

Here is a very specific sewing project for the home! Once upon a time when my keyboard sat in a very public spot in our house, the ugly metal stand and all the visible cords really started to bug me. One day it hit me: I could design and sew a fitted skirt for my keyboard stand! Not only would it hide the mess of cords and the ugly utilitarian stand, but I could still slide a chair underneath it when I wanted to use my keyboard.

I used a natural coloured cotton canvas for the skirt. Then I dressed it up with some black grosgrain ribbon. I love this combo because it’s neutral but still a little classy and glamourous to match the rest of our sitting room decor. It blends in with the black and white keyboard too! It’s so easy to customize this design for any size and shape, so it works for anything you want to hide. Come get the full instructions and materials list and make your own, today!
